The City of Chester is accepting applications for the position of Assistant City Clerk--Treasurer. This position is a part time position, 25 hours per week, 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, with full benefits, and will be shared with a 10 hour per week Assistant City Clerk who will be responsible for payroll and benefits.
The position will maintain accounts and accounting records for the City including accounts payable and receivable. It involves working with an accounting/payroll computer program and requires full functioning bookkeeping and clerical work, including data entry input and word processing, minute taking, and requires knowledge of office equipment, computer, etc.
The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years’ experience with computerized accounting programs, preferably in a government setting. Position will be required to verify and approve disbursements and accept and record receivables for 5 City funds. Excel competency and experience is a must. Education and training in business or experience in lieu of schooling is essential. The candidate must be adept at dealing with the public and able to handle difficult situations in a calm and professional manner. Multitasking is part of the job. This requires an unflappable person who can work in a busy office. Must be able to prepare financial reports as requested by City Clerk and/or City Council.
